SAY THEIR NAMES
Some say the world has gone crazy.
Others, like actor Will Smith, say
"Racism Is Not Getting Worse, It's Getting Filmed"
His quote was from 2015.
Part of undoing "racial bias" in our society is for kids at our (mostly caucasian) school
to practice seeing black faces as the human beings they are.
Students were asked to brainstorm how these lethal situations could have been handled without the loss of a life.

"...For me this was stepping outside of my comfort zone, because I normally only draw white people, and so I was very nervous that I would do something wrong or offend someone. This was an interesting project and I'm glad you had us do it."

Thoughts from Deb:
I have noticed many people have an easier time feeling empathy for women in these situations, or those who it is easier to see as innocent. I DO want empathy and understanding for the black men, too, regardless of what they may have previously done.
The death penalty is only legal in 28 out of 50 states, and that is when they go through the process of having a trial, seeing a judge...Many are asking why the police officers are executing U.S. citizens at all. Their job is to keep the peace, protect, and arrest people so they can go to trial with a judge...isn't it?
Many feel sorrow for the "guilty" ones, too, because who knows what they may have experienced in life to made them feel like they were making the best choices they could. We need more resources in our society to help those in need.
