"This piece is a recreation sketch I did of the piece Avery Coonley Playhouse: Triptych Window by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1912. This piece is located in the Chicago Art Institute.
I really enjoyed doing a recreation of this piece even though it was just a sketch. I sort of had wished I’d made this piece on a bigger piece of paper. One of the difficulties I had in making this piece was that I kept smearing the pencil with my hand that I was drawing with. I was able to work around it though by putting a piece of paper under my hand.
I chose to recreate this piece because I liked how you couldn’t exactly tell what was going on. I really liked how the window part looked really real but then through it, it was very abstract and you can’t tell what was happening."

"I really liked this exercise because I could draw without worrying about whether it was good or not."
" I think it was a good exercise for me because even when I messed up I had to just keep going without erasing it or starting over." "I really enjoyed this assignment. I found it really fun to see the results. I think it’s a good way to get out of your comfort zone and laugh at your artwork." |
"I think this was fun and really made me pay attention to the sizes and positioning of things"
"This exercise was fun and I can [definitely] tell I improved." "This is a very good exercise because it trains your eye to be able to move along with your hand, focusing on what you’re drawing." |
"I was focusing on the thing, not the drawing"
"I kept wanting to lift up my pencil and make more sketchy lines but I was able to just focus on the outline." "It was a little hard to not peek, but it was worth it to be able to be completely surprised when I looked at the end result" |
